Understand the visibility problem
Talent is not the problem for Canadian players. Visibility is. US college coaches recruit where they can evaluate athletes in person, and that is rarely north of the border. If you wait for recruiters to find you in Canada, most of the time they will not.
Build film coaches can actually evaluate
Your film is your resume. Keep a current Hudl profile with both a highlight reel and full game film. Coaches want to see how you move when the play breaks down, not just your best three plays. Lead with your position, your measurables, and your contact information.
Get in front of coaches at camps
Camps and combines are where evaluations happen. For Canadian athletes, that usually means traveling to US college camps. Our NCAA camp tours exist for exactly this reason: we take athletes to selected camps with on-site coaching so they are prepared and seen.
Take care of academics and eligibility
Grades open doors and keep them open. Strong academics widen the list of schools that can recruit you and can unlock academic money on top of athletic interest. Understand the eligibility requirements early and keep your transcripts in order.
Start early, be proactive, and follow up
- Start building film and a recruiting list by your early high school years.
- Email coaches directly with your film, position, measurables, and academics.
- Follow up after camps and games with updated film.
- Be realistic and cast a wide net across divisions, in the US and in Canada.
