Position training
Wide receiver training in Ajax for Durham Region
Our wide receiver (WR) training is part of our Sunday sessions at The Competitive Edge in Ajax, where the drills are tailored to different positions. It is open to families from Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa and across Durham.
Our WR coach is Head Coach Keith Godding. Born in Ajax, he played receiver at Bishop's from 2004 to 2008, then in the CFL.
Receivers who trained with us went on to Western, Guelph, York, Mount Allison, Maine and Pittsburgh. Most came from Ajax, Whitby, Courtice, Bowmanville, Port Hope and Peterborough. One of them, Jared Wayne, is now a Miami Dolphins receiver.
Who coaches our WRs
Keith Godding went to Denis O'Connor High School in Ajax, then played five seasons at Bishop's. In 2007 he led the Gaiters with 26 catches and caught a pass in every regular-season game.
As a senior in 2008 he started all eight games. His 607 receiving yards were 10th in Canadian university football that year.
The Montreal Alouettes brought him to camp in 2008 and 2009, and he spent part of 2008 on their practice roster. He played four games for the 2010 Toronto Argonauts. He was with BC and Edmonton too, without a game for either.
Our defensive backs work with Coach Darryl Cain, on our coaching staff since 2016. Coach Jake Kelly, a Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back, also coaches with us in the CFL off-season. Their page is defensive back training.
Receivers who trained with us, and where they went
Every player below is on our alumni roster. Their college rosters list their high schools and other teams too.
- Jared Wayne, from Peterborough, trained with us at The Competitive Edge. He played receiver at Pittsburgh, and Houston signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2023. The Texans waived him on October 12, 2026, and the Miami Dolphins claimed him the next day.
- Brayden Misseri, from Whitby, did not drop a pass in 2024 at Western. Saskatchewan signed him as an undrafted free agent in May 2025. After the Riders cut him before the 2025 season, he went back to Western for a fifth season.
- Dasani McIntosh, from Ajax, was a freshman receiver at Davenport University. He moved to Western and caught 11 passes for 268 yards and two touchdowns in his first season there, 2024. He is on Western's 2026 roster.
- Aaron Arteaga, from Courtice, went to Holy Trinity and caught 8 passes for 68 yards as a York rookie in 2021. He moved to the University of Maine, redshirted in 2022 and played 10 games in 2024, mostly on special teams.
- Monroe Corniffe is a Guelph receiver. On October 17, 2026 at Queen's, he caught 5 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns in a 42 to 41 loss.
- Harry Varty, from Port Hope, is a Guelph receiver, in his third year there in 2026.
- Elijah Hartley, from Ajax, was a first-year receiver at Western in 2022.
- Idahosa and Jelani Yorke, from Bowmanville, both played receiver at Mount Allison. Idahosa played there from 2014 to 2018 and returned a punt 88 yards for a touchdown against Saint Mary's in 2016. Jelani played in 2018 and 2019.
What happens on a Sunday
Our Sunday sessions run in 8-week blocks. They include hands-on drills tailored to different positions, working on quickness, form and decision-making.
Every session ends with 5-5-5s from a stance: 5 yards, cut, 5 back, cut, 5 more. Coach Keith chose it as the base of our conditioning. The quick burst comes first, then the legs to keep going.
In 7v7, every down is a pass
Our 7v7 Travel Team runs January to May with weekly practices and tournaments. It is invite-only, and right now we are looking for 16U and 13U players.
7v7 is non-contact, seven players a side, with no line play. Every down is a pass, so a receiver runs a route on every snap. To be considered, upload game film.
For older receivers looking at U.S. schools, our NCAA Camp Tours travel as a group to selected NCAA camps in May and June, with our coaches on site.
How we compare with the gyms that show up in search
When we searched "wide receiver training near me" from Ajax in October 2026, Google showed gyms and personal trainers. None of them was a football program.
The one receiver-only trainer we found in the GTA is Elite 80 in Toronto. It runs 1-on-1 and group sessions, and in October 2026 it listed a one-hour group receiver session at $60.
What we can show you is a coach whose Bishop's and CFL record is public, and a list of receivers whose college rosters you can check yourself.
